What to report
Describe what changed.
- No hot water or a shorter supply than normal
- Popping, rumbling, or hissing from the unit
- Rust-colored or cloudy hot water
- Moisture at a valve, connection, or tank base
- Water that becomes dangerously hot
Keep clear of electrical and gas hazards.
Do not touch wet electrical components. If you smell gas, leave the area and contact the gas utility or emergency services from a safe location.
Repair or replacement requires context.
Age, tank condition, corrosion, access, venting, household demand, and the failed component all affect the sensible next step.
